MTV turns 30 today and what can we say… is it even about music videos anymore? All they have really is reality-based programming now. Take a look at Gawker’s take on MTV’s evolution.
‘Thriller’ Jacket Sells for $1.8 Million
Michael Jackson is apparently not only the King of Pop, but also the King of Auctions too. The famous red and black leather jacket from the “Thriller” video brought in a whopping $1.8 million. Now that’s zombie-like!
Sony’s Current Storm + Random 80s Hair Band = ?
Poor Sony… You’ve been all over the news lately and not in a good way. Well, what do you expect? A hacker attacks your PlayStation Network and gains access to over a 100 million users information. Eeek! PR Daily thinks that you should take the advice of Nelson, an 80s rock group, that coined the phrase “After the Rain.” Nelson’s #1 hit song was great publicity for them and great advice for Sony. Weather the storm…
Take Me Home Tonight – Boombox Obsession
Hey 80s lovers! Sorry, we’ve been MIA. Tons of stuff going on over here. I saw this article, and I just had to post it. What better way to get back on track then with an 80s obsession. Owerko explains in a NY Times article why and how he started his collection of boomboxes. His interest grew into a book, “The Boombox Project: The Machines, the Music, and the Urban Underground,” published last month by Abrams Image. “It features his lovingly detailed close-up photographs of vintage portable stereos, as well as commentary by Spike Lee, L L Cool J and members of the Beastie Boys and the Fugees about the role the devices played in New York’s street culture from the late 1970s to the mid-’80s.”
80s Were the Best, Nap Time and All

This proves that all good things came from the 80s. Sleep scientist David Dinges helped found the modern science of napping in the early ’80s at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. “Short periods of sleep have been shown to improve alertness, memory, motor skills, decision making, and mood. All while cutting down on stress, carelessness, and even heart disease.” Bottomline? Get your ZZZZZs. Check out Business Week’s latest article on sleep and productivity.
