Hey 80s lovers! Sorry, we’ve been MIA. Tons of stuff going on over here. I saw this article, and I just had to post it. What better way to get back on track then with an 80s obsession. Owerko explains in a NY Times article why and how he started his collection of boomboxes. His interest grew into a book, “The Boombox Project: The Machines, the Music, and the Urban Underground,” published last month by Abrams Image. “It features his lovingly detailed close-up photographs of vintage portable stereos, as well as commentary by Spike Lee, L L Cool J and members of the Beastie Boys and the Fugees about the role the devices played in New York’s street culture from the late 1970s to the mid-’80s.”

Coleman died last week at the age of 42 from a brain hemorrhage. Easy Rider Dennis Hopper also passed last week at the age of 74 from prostate cancer. He earned an Oscar nomination in 1986 for his role in “Hoosiers,” in which he played an alcoholic basketball team manager. That same year, he received critical acclaim for his performance in David Lynch’s “Blue Velvet.” Rue McClanahan, Golden Girl herself, died yesterday at 76 from a brain hemorrhage. Golden Girls seized the #1 rating its first night, in 1985, stayed in the top 10 for 6 seasons and captured ton of Emmys. It’s a sad month in Hollywood that’s for sure. RIP…

I know, we are always talking movies. But let’s face it, some of the best movies came from the 80s. And right now, these days, it seems any movie that came out during the 80s is ripe for a remake.

“Clash of the Titans” and “Red Dawn” are but two of a significant number of ’80s-related films Hollywood has brought to theatres. Joining them are Disney’s “Tron” sequel; “The Karate Kid,” “Predators,” and “Nightmare on Elm Street” franchises; a follow-up to Oliver Stone’s “Wall Street” and the Sylvester Stallone-directed “The Expendables.”

So, why all these remakes now? I think I know what it might be. Those of us who grew up watching Freddy Krueger and Mr. Miyagi are now in a position to green-light the movies we loved as children. They are developing sequels and reboots to such 80s classics as “Ghostbusters,” “21 Jump Street,” and “The Smurfs” too. 20th Century Fox will also release a feature film based on the ’80s action-adventure TV series “The A-Team” this year.

And in our constant search for the best of the 80s, I wanted to close with the original Ghostbusters trailer from 1984. Happy viewing. What 80s films would you like to see remade, redid, redone???
